What used to be City
Sanitary Service in McMinnville became WOW/Western Oregon Waste. Now it's
Recology Western Oregon (ho hum). One of the distinguishing things about WOW,
other than the name, was WOW Man, who came to the rescue in various garbage and
recycling efforts. Don't know if WOW Man survived the name change. Unlike
Superman, WOW man not affected by Kryptonite. But, perhaps he was killed off by
a name change?! Mac News photos taken 9/16/2014 morning in parking lot of
Jake's restaurant, McMinnville.

McMinnville's Scottish roots

In the "old days," McMinnville played up its Scottish roots, whether or not the city had any roots in Scotland.
For instance, see "MAC," the Scotsman in this ad for McMinnville Water & Light in an old (1950s or 1960s?) city directory.
More recently (appx. 2014) one McMinnville business was tooting its Scottish bagpipe.

Lowest Bidder
On CAA Airport
The contracting firm of Axman Miller, Burbank,
Cal., was low bidder among four May 1 on a contract for federal construction of
an airport near here, according to the district United States engineer's office
at Portland.
Exact among of the building contract was not
released from the office, but it was indicated that the project approximated
$400,000.
The city of McMinnville recently voted a $50,000
bond issue to provide the land for a 467-acre modern port under the CAA federal
construction program.
Details of the work cannot
be announced because of war-time censorship.
